Day 13 - Photo of your fashion/style icon
Lauren Conrad
I have grown up with Lauren Conrad as my style icon. It all started when she stared in Laguna Beach. She was a teenager like I was, though a few years older than me. I would look up to her because she was always the sweet California girl everybody loved and wanted to be.

During my teens, I was really into my hair and I would always style it like she did. I would steal my moms curling iron to try and recreate those beachy waves she always wore that looked to effortless yet beautiful. When I finally got my first straightener (which was crappy and from the drugstore) I would try to make my hair pin straight like she sometimes wore hers.

The first look I ever took from her was the bump she always created with the front section of her hair (picture on the left). I have worn this since I was 13, and still use it today. It was just an easy way to get my hair out of my face, but at the same time it was super cute and easy.
Later, I started practicing french braiding my bangs like she did (picture on the right). Back then, there were no such thing as tutorials that taught you how to do a certain hairstyle, I had to teach myself. I literally took out some old dolls and practiced french braiding on them for hours until I was finally comfortable to do it on myself. Today I am very good at making french braids all thanks to Lauren.

I also loved (and still do) taking a front piece of hair, twisting it and tying it back with a bobby pin (picture on the right). It was kind of her signature style, & I find it an easy way to get your bangs out of your face and changing your hairstyle up.
When I started to be interested in makeup, who did I look up to? Lauren Conrad, of course. I think the reason why I am so into neutral colours is her. She hardly ever wore much colour on her eyes, she always kept it simple but pretty.
Clothing? I've never really looked up to a celebrity for clothing. I'm the kind of person who looks for the trends on the street. Especially here in Canada, trends can sometimes be different, maybe for weather reasons or just because we are different. I always found the city I live in to follow European trends more than American in clothing, but of course we have the American chains.
I do love her clothing line, but it is not very accessible for me. The closest Kohl is about 2 hours away, in the United States. I do own a few pieces from last year, but I have not had the chance to shop there since.
How have I followed Lauren lately? Through her books! She has been writing a lot lately. She came out with a series of 3 books involving a character living a similar life than she did on The Hills. She also wrote an amazing style book, which I love to read every so often.
Lauren is a very innovative person who I not only look up to as a style icon, but as a person for so many reasons. She always pushes forward and brings her career to a higher level. Although I don't necessarily want to be a celebrity, I do want to be a successful person in both my studies & my future career, just like the one and only, Lauren Conrad.
